CONFIRMATION AND BAPTISM

With great joy and understandable pride, the Batesville Presbyterian Church celebrated its latest confirmations and baptisms on April 13, 2014.  The seven confirmands are:  Mathew Woods, Millie Clark, Isabella Morrow, Addison Murphy, Tristan Goddard, Bowen Williams, and Ian Cole.  In addition, Sulli and Mathew Woods, and Tristan Goddard received the Sacrament of Christian Baptism.

Confirmation is the Christian Education program used in Presbyterian churches wherein students (called "confirmands") receive instruction in Bible and church history, the history of salvation, what it means to be a Presbyterian Christian, and Presbyterian denominational organization and ministry.  At the end of the program, the confirmands are given the opportunity to profess their personal Christian faith to the congregation's Elders on Session.  In the Service of Confirmation, they make specific vows to live their faith in Jesus Christ in the world and through service in their congregation.  The congregation makes vows to nurture and support them as active church members.

Those confirmands who were not baptized as children, as is the norm in Presbyterian churches, also receive the Sacrament of Baptism as a sign and seal of the Covenant of Grace incorporating them into the church.
